The Coding Workshop have worked with ringtones and mobile cell phones for a long time, initially creating the award winning
Ringtone Converter for Windows and Mac platforms.
The Polyphonic Wizard takes support for polyphonic phones one step further, and as its name suggests allows you to add new ringtones and pictures to your polyphonic cell phone.
Using the knowledge we have acquired from the Ringtone Converter, the Polyphonic Wizard has been designed from the ground up to be easy and fun to use by anyone with a pc and a cellular phone.
What does the Polyphonic Wizard do?
The Polyphonic Wizard is a piece of software that runs on your computer, and allows you to add a ringtone or picture to your phone without any additional cables or sms services.
All you need is your PC and your phone.
Using your current internet connection and the internet browser in your phone, the Polyphonic Wizard allows you to select a music (midi) file or picture then converts this into a format your phone understands, and finally transfers this to your phone.
Version 1.2 adds the additional ability to save the converted midi files so you can transfer these using infra red, bluetooth or cable connection if your phone and pc have the facility.
This is all done in step by step manner and has been designed to be very easy, as easy as 1-2-3!
How do the Polyphonic Wizard and Ringtone Converter differ?
The original Ringtone Converter was designed to be used with 'standard' phones, and we believe for this purpose it still has no real equal.
The Ringtone Converter can convert RTTTL (Ring Tone Text Transfer Language), MIDI, Nokia key press sequences, Motorola 'on screen' format and Nokia Composer ring tones so they work on almost any make or model of phone, standard or polyphonic and now also contains all the tools you need to add polyphonic ringtones to your phone such as midi editors, format converters and wap tools.
However, whilst the Ringtone Converter was designed from the start to be used with standard phones, and it also features a full set of very powerful polyphonic tools, we identified a need for a second piece of software for our customers that was as easy to use for polyphonic phones as the original was for standard phones.
The Polyphonic Wizard was born, and complements the Ringtone Converter perfectly. If you simply want to add ringtones and pictures to your polyphonic phone using a step by step guide (wizard), use the Polyphonic Wizard If however you have an older 'standard' phone, or want to use some of the more advanced midi editing functions available for polyphonic tools, then the Ringtone Converter is for you.
Quality Ringtones
Whatever the capability of your phone, with the Polyphonic Wizard you do not need to have any musical or technical knowledge, the software takes care of all the details for you.
The software will convert the midi file you select to the highest quality ringtone possible for your phone, and of course as you no longer have to pay per ringtone, if you dont like the result you can always try again!
Supported Phones
Virtually all makes and models of polyphonic handset are compatible with the Polyphonic Wizard.
We are adding support for new phones to the software all the time, for a current list of supported mobile phones please check our supported phones page.
If your phone is not listed try the demo version anyway and select 'other' for your phone type, the Polyphonic Wizard is able to detect the format your phone will use with most phones so will probably work for you.
What about modern songs and copyright ?
Whilst most modern pop songs are available in midi format, you should be aware that they may be subject to copyright restrictions.
The Polyphonic Wizard is a tool which will allow you to add these files to your phone, but doing so may breach the copyright restrictions imposed by their author, if in doubt check first.
Whats the difference between a Ringtone and a Melody ?
Nothing at all, its just a different name for the same thing!
Whats in a name?
Ringtones are often called by different names by different manufacturers, and in different countries.
English Language
Motorola and Nokia seem to stick with Ring Tone, or Ringtone (as a single word), while Ericsson and Samsung prefer Melody. Whatever the name, the tune is the same!
Spanish
In Spain, ringtones are usually known as Melodias
French
In France ringtones / melodies are called Sonneries.
Italian
In Italy apparently, ringtones are called melodie or suonerie (plural). (Thanks to Shasa).
German
In Germany and Austria, a ringtone is known as Melodie, or Melodien in plural. (thanks to Umer for that info!).
Update - We have been told in January 2003 that apparently the word 'Melodien' is right, but more often is used the name Klingelton in singular or Klingeltone in plural. The word must begin with big letter - "Klingelton" and not "klingelton" - it is so in the german language. Thanks to Ivelin for the update!
Do you have trouble hearing your phone ring ?
Don't worry, many people do, especially with polyphonic handsets !
The Polyphonic Wizard has a specific feature built in to make sure an midi files you use are volume enhanced for mobile cell phones.
If you try to add a midi file that has not been volume enhanced, the Wizard will ask you if you want to enhance the midi, or leave it as it. The choice is yours.
What about pictures - can I add those ?
It depends on your phone, the Polyphonic Wizard will allow you to add images and pictures to most makes and models, the best thing to do is try the demo - it costs nothing to give it a go!
